Jeraldine Emma Humphrey, 94, of Osgood passed away at 5:15 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born in the Cedar Creek community, south of Osgood on June 1, 1930, the daughter of Arthur and Clara Diem Jahnigen. She was married to James Humphrey on January 21, 1951 and he preceded her in death on May 7, 2007. Survivors include one daughter Janine (Mike) Stratton of Holton; son-in-law Sam (Patti) Stratton of Lafayette; sister-in-law Helen Jahnigen of Osgood; five grandchildren Andy (Cathie) Stratton of Holton, Jim Stratton of Lafayette, Beth (Tim) McAfee of Versailles, Sam (Crystal) Stratton of Columbus, and Tina Bond of Lafayette; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Jamie Stratton, brothers Herman and Clem Jahnigen, sisters Virginia Lowe and Dorothy Black, and her twin brother Jerald (Butch) Jahnigen. Mrs. Humphrey was a 1948 graduate of Versailles High School. Her working career spanned many years involving jobs with US Steel in Cincinnati, Vines Eggs in Osgood, and the Southeastern Indiana REMC . She was best known in the community for her 28 years as secretary for the Jac-Cen-Del Schools. Mrs. Humphrey enjoyed gardening, growing roses, participating in the Osgood/Versailles bridge club, decorating for the holidays, painting ceramics and pictures, and traveling with Jim and the grandchildren. Jeraldine was a 70 year member of the Osgood United Methodist Church, a former member of Tri-Kappa, the Osgood Eastern Star, and the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 13 at 11 a.m. at the Osgood United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Roberts officiating Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Napoleon. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Activities Fund at Ripley Crossing or the St. John Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
