Joyce A. Demetriades, 82, of New Haven passed away at 1:10am, Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born near Osgood on May 12, 1938 the daughter of Paul and Norma Pendergast Black. She was married to Nick Demetriades on June 5, 1960 and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1995. Survivors include two sons Michael (Belinda) Demetriades of Brownsburg and Chris Demetriades of Garrett; one daughter Cathy (Dan) McGuire of Ft. Wayne; 4 grandchildren Cayla (Reid) Yoder, Spencer (Michelle) Davidson, Clayton Pusey, and Nick Demetriades; one great-grandson Will Yoder; two sisters Geneva Kennedy of Versailles and Shirla Jones of Napoleon. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law Mark Pusey, her brothers Roy, Paul Edward, William, Kenneth, Wayne, and Melvin Black, and her sisters Gladys Black, Berta Jean Menchhofer, Mary Sanders, Wilma Hughes, and Emma Lee Beagle. Mrs. Demetriades was a 1956 graduate of Versailles High School. She was a former employee of INDOT, Bower’s Envelope in Indianapolis, and retired from the Raytheon Corporation in Ft. Wayne where she worked in the digitizing department. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family and had completed and framed many picture puzzles for her children. She also enjoyed taking care of her dog Sampson. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 4^th at 1pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mike Cantrell of the Versailles Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will also be on Monday beginning at 11am. Memorials may be given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Briggs S. Willoughby, 54, of Brookville passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 in Brookville. He was born in Cincinnati on May 17, 1966 the son of Eugene and Cathy Lindemann Willoughby. Survivors include his mother and step-father Cathy and Marshall Koger of Osgood; two daughters Amanda Prather of Milan and Marissa Miller of Mt. Orab, Ohio; one son Nick Willoughby of Colorado; his grandson Tanner; one brother Hugh Gober of Lawrenceburg; one sister Frankie Herbert of Lawrenceburg; step-brother Tim (Mary) Koger of Zionsville; step-sister Lisa (Greg) Briggs of Moorefield. Mr. Willoughby was a 1984 graduate of South Ripley High School and was a former employee of Gecom in Greensburg. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2^nd at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Tim Heim of the Shelby Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will begin at 10am on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.

Everett J. Thompson, 86, of Versailles passed away at 1:50am, Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Aspen Health Campus in Greensburg. He was born near Milan on October 19, 1934 the son of Clyde and Dorothy Bohner Thompson. He was married to Melba Aikins on June 11, 1955 and his wife of 65 years survives. Other survivors include one son Kevin (Kay McCammon) Thompson of Versailles; one daughter Connie (Jon) Martin of Greensburg; four grandchildren Mandy (Micah) Lohrum of Greensburg, Amber (Terry) Jessee of Lawrenceburg, Andrew Martin of Greensburg, and JoBeth Martin of Cincinnati; five great-grandchildren; one brother Ralph (Janet) Thompson of North Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Thompson was a 1952 graduate of Osgood High School. On July 11, 1957 he was inducted into the US Army and served with the Infantry as an SP4. He was discharged on June 30, 1959 and for service to his country Everett received the Good Conduct Medal. In civilian life he worked for 40 years as the office manager for the Southeastern Indiana REMC in Osgood. For 34 straight years Everett and friends made the trip to Lake of the Woods in Canada for fishing, sometimes veering south to Florida. He was best known in the community as the sponsor for the Jackson A. Raney DeMolay chapter which he founded in the early 70s. Everett was a member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He was also a 64 year member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge and had been a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years

Virginia “Jean” Stephen, 79, of Versailles passed away at 11:55pm, Sunday, December 20, 2020, her 63rd wedding anniversary, at her home. She was born near Alpine in Fayette County, Indiana on January 16, 1941 the daughter of Joseph and Frieda Swango Redmon. She was married to James Stephen on December 20, 1957 and he survives. Other survivors include two sons J.R. (Debra) Stephen and Joe (Kelly) Stephen both of Versailles; daughter-in-law Tammy Stephen of Canaan; 13 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Lee, and her brothers James, William, and Steve Redmon. Mrs. Stephen was a homemaker and enjoyed the almost lost art of letter writing. She was a talented artist, enjoyed sewing, and also served as the family barber. Jean was a member of the Church on the Rock at Batesville. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 28th at 12pm at the Church on the Rock in Batesville with Pastors Roger Dean and Dan May officiating. Jean’s grandsons Curtis and Micah will also participate in the service. Burial will be in the South Park Cemetery at Greensburg. Visitation will also be on Monday at the church beginning at 10am. Memorials may be given to the church youth ministry in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

On December 17, 2020, David T. Reynolds, 68, of Holton, passed this life at 5:p.m. at Ascension St. Vincent, Indianapolis, with his wife of 41-years by his side.  David was born in Covington, KY, on January 30, 1952. His parents, Cletus and Doris G. Reynolds, preceded him in death.  He was married to Karen S. English Reynolds on May 10, 1980.  Survivors besides his wife includes: a son, Derrick T. Reynolds of Greensburg and Melanie Jo Reynolds Bird of Holton; and four grandchildren. Two sisters: Linda Harris of CA, Patty Oak (Perry) of Moores Hill, a brother, Doug Reynolds of LaGrange, KY, nieces: Dena Burk and Chelsea Dilts, nephews Garrett Oak, Spencer Oak and Johnathon Wynn and mother-in-law, Margaret English of Holton.  He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Bonnie Reynolds, and sister, Vanessa Reynolds. David was a truck driver and route auditor for Coca-Cola for 32 years. After retiring from Coca-Cola, he loved to volunteer at local food pantries. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1970 where he played basketball. He later obtained his real estate license and worked with Massey Realty. He also worked in a mortuary in Florida for a short period of time. He was a cat lover, and enjoyed many playful times with Edmund and Squirt. He loved a sharp looking pick-up truck, the great outdoors, traveling, his family, playing Santa Claus and Christmastime. Most of all he loved the Lord and spent much time in prayer. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

Frank E. Kohlman, 63, of Napoleon passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at his home. He was born in Batesville on February 21, 1957 the son of Albert and Mae Dean Kohlman. Survivors include two daughters Kendra (Phillip) Stegemoller of Cross Plains and Miranda (Jon) Fletcher of Rising Sun; three brothers Charles (Sharon) Kohlman and John Kohlman both of Napoleon, and Donnie (Patty) Kohlman of Batesville; three sisters Marcie (Paul) Johannigman and Alberta (Nick) Allgeier both of Napoleon, and Ann Reyna of San Antonio, Texas; 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Catherine Engelking.  Mr. Kohlman was a 1976 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School. He was a former employee of American Lifts in Greensburg where he worked as a welder. Frank was a member of the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Greensburg and was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 22^nd at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Tim Heim of the Shelby Christian Church officiating. Visitation will also be on Tuesday beginning at 10am. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.

Bonnie J. Walsh, 73, of Versailles passed away at 8:20am, Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Rose Assisted Living Center in Carmel. She was born near Versailles on March 22, 1947 the daughter of Arthur and Blanch Hammon Ross. She was married to Dennis Walsh on June 12, 1965 and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2015. Survivors include one daughter Terri (Tim) Hunter of Carmel; her grandson Dylan; two sisters Margaret Gallenstein of Peoria, Arizona, and Mary Denny of Columbus. She was also preceded in death by her son Scott Walsh, her parents, her brother Bill Ross, and her sister Betty Lauber. Mrs. Walsh was a 1965 graduate of Holton High School. She worked for several years at the Napoleon State Bank in Holton and also at the Southeastern Indiana REMC in Osgood. Bonnie was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church where she participated in the ABWM and the music ministry. She was well known in the community for her beautiful singing voice. She also enjoyed embroidery, ceramics, crafts, knitting, and crocheting. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Luke Koors of the Hopewell Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the food pantry of the Hopewell Baptist Church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Charles E. Simon, 83, of Osgood passed away at 11:40am, Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Aspen Place in Greensburg. He was born near Osgood on March 24, 1937 the son of Arthur and Eva Tunny Simon. He was married to Lucille Schwering on October 16, 1957 and she preceded him in death on January 31, 2020. Survivors include four sons Tony (Sandi), Mike (Janice), Joe (Renee), and Paul (Beth) all of Osgood; three daughters Janet (Joe) Wagner and Jennifer (Kevin) Ricke both of Osgood, and Sandy (Paul) Wenning of Greensburg; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers Gene (Patty) Simon of Osgood and Dale (Bonnie) Simon of Bennington; four sisters Amelia (Louis) Wolter and Mary Gilland of Osgood, Melinda (Tim) Wissel of Greensburg, and Rita (Jim) Bedel of Westport; sister-in-law Dolores Simon of Osgood. He was also preceded in death by his parents, daughter and son-in-law Mark and Julie Eckstein, grandson Scott Singleton, great-grandson Seth Holland, an infant sister, and his brothers Donald and Arthur Simon, Jr. Mr. Simon was a farmer, a former employee of BCA in Greensburg, Johnson Wholesale in Greensburg, and drove a route for Straber Oil. Charley retired in 2009 after driving a bus for the Jac-Cen-Del schools for 30 years. Charley was a member of the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Wednesday, December 9^th at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon with Father Bill Turner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the church in care of the cemetery.

Susan Owens, 87, of Osgood passed away at 3:30pm, Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born near Dale in Breathitt County, Kentucky on July 2, 1933 the daughter of McCoy and Thelma Keeton Miller. She was married to Robert (Joe) Owens on March 7, 1953 and he preceded her in death on February 20, 2019. Survivors include one son Jeff (Pat) Owens of Elrod; three daughters Vernice Stratton of Holton, Tina Bardell of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and Naomi (Kevin) Tunny of Holton; 9 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren;  four brothers Dean (Evelyn) Miller and Charles Miller both of Osgood, and Johnnie (Donna) Miller and Grover (Cathy) Miller both of Versailles; two sisters Janet (Ralph) Thompson of North Vernon and Helen Bauman of Osgood; sisters-in-law Bonnie Miller of Versailles and Mary Miller of Milan. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert Joseph Owens, Jr., son-in-law Leslie Stratton, Jr., grandson Scott Stratton, brothers Chavis Miller, Gray Miller, and Henry Clay Miller, and her sisters Reva Mullins and Opal Smith. Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and a former employee of Thayer Farms in Osgood and also the Osgood Laundromat. She also did wallpapering in the community for several years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and her and Joe attended many auctions. Susan was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of the Nazarene in Switzerland County. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 2^nd at 11am at the Cedar Creek Community Church near Osgood with Susan’s nephew Pastor Michael Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Family Cemetery near Osgood. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Robert C. Hutter, 79, of Versailles passed away at 10:15am, Friday, November 27, 2020 at his home. He was born in Peru, Indiana on April 12, 1941 the son of Arthur and Pauline Bender Hutter. He was married to Lynne McIntosh on April 1, 2009 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Robert Hutter, Jr. of Versailles; one daughter Hannah Hutter of Versailles; one step-son Roger Adams of Versailles; 2 grandchildren; two brothers Richard (Luciel) Hutterof Benham, and Paul Hutter of Versailles; three sisters Gertrude Hutter and Clara Mae Goldschmidt of Ocala, Florida, and Marian McKittrick of Versailles. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Laura Irene Clodren and Pauline Amy Hutter, and his brother Arthur J. Hutter. Mr. Hutter was a 1960 graduate of  Versailles High School. Bob was a longtime employee of Ripley Publishing in Versailles and retired from Campbell-Hausfeld in Harrison, Ohio. Bob was a long time member of the NRA. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 1^st at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Harris Long of the First Baptist Church in Milan officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will also be on Tuesday beginning at 10am. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.

Denise Goodpaster, 66, of Versailles passed away at 7:55am, Monday, November 23, 2020 at her home. She was born at the Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville on September 18, 1954 the daughter of Alfred and Jean O’Day Adkins. She was married to Robert Goodpaster on February 25, 1989 and he survives. Other survivors include one daughter Annie Goodpaster of Versailles; her mother Jean Adkins of Versailles; five brothers Tracy Adkins of Versailles, Tom (Normalene) Adkins of Vevay, Tim Adkins of Madison, Ted Adkins of Modesto, California, and Pat Adkins of Akron, Ohio; one sister Melissa May of Versailles, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Garrett, her father, and her brother Michael. Mrs. Goodpaster was a 1972 graduate of South Ripley High School. She was employed with the NMLRA in Friendship for 39 years, retiring in 2012. After her retirement Denise served as a substitute teacher in special needs for the elementary and high school at South Ripley. Denise was a member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church, the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary, and was a lifetime member of the NMLRA. Funeral services for Denise will be held on Saturday, November 28th at 11am at the Tanglewood Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Mullins and Rev. Becky Pohle officiating. Burial will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given in Denise’s name to the Special Olympics in care of the funeral home.

Gerald “Gene” Rork, 76, of Versailles passed away at 4:30pm, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at his home. He was born at the Whitlatch Clinic in Milan on June 4, 1944 the son of Jesse “Jack” and Mildred Nealis Rork. He was married to Judy Sturgill on February 19, 1965 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons Steve (Stephanie) Rork of Batesville and James (Candy) Rork of Versailles; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; one brother Rick (Jamie) Rork of Litchfield, Illinois; one sister Rachel Mink of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Rork was a 1964 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School. He was a former employee of Klobenschmidt in Greensburg and retired from the Hollywood Casino where he worked in security. Gene enjoyed collecting antiques and going to flea markets. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Saturday, November 21^st at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with family friend Buddy Lloyd officiating. Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Saturday beginning at 12pm. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.

 Mary Ellen Strong, 84, of Batesville passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at her home. She was born in Greensburg on June 30, 1936 the daughter of Alva Earl and Isabel Stevens Curran. She was married to Lawrence Strong on March 21, 1998 and he preceded her in death on May 1, 2017. Survivors include one son James (Lumi) Smith of Fairmont, West Virginia; one daughter Rebecca (Scott) Krohn of Batesville; 5 grandchildren 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; one brother Norman Curran of Missouri. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters Wilma Robbins and Dorothy Lanning, and her brothers Noble, Roy Donovan, Harlan, and Freeman Curran. Before re-locating to Batesville in 2015 Lawrence and Mary lived in Lakeland, Florida. While in Florida Mary Ellen worked as an office manager in Crystal River. She had also worked as a medical assistant in Orlando and operated her own truck brokerage. Mary Ellen attended the United Church of God in Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Joshua Creech officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Decatur County or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.

Marcus “Mark” McKittrick, 61, of Versailles passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Hospice of St. Elizabeth in Erlanger, Kentucky. He was born in Lawrenceburg on July 30, 1959 the son of Howard and Virginia Stevens McKittrick. Survivors include three sons Travis (Ashton) McKittrick of Modesto, California, Ryan McKittrick of Milan, and Craig (Ashlee) McKittrick of Warner Robins AFB, Georgia; one daughter Jamie McKittrick of Florence, Kentucky.; 5 grandchildren; one brother Michael McKittrick of King, North Carolina; four sisters Jeanette (David) Miller of Fancy Gap, Virginia, Myrna Dunaway of Hope, Brenda Moore of Moores Hill, and Sharon McKittrick and her husband Tom Huck of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his father, and his mother Virginia Custer McDonald. Mark was a 1977 graduate of Milan High School. He served in the US Marines from 1976 until 1980. Upon discharge from the Marines Mark became employed with the Halcomb Home Center in Versailles and marked 40 years there on November 1^st. Mark was a member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge. Mark’s mother Virginia passed away on November 2^nd and his services will be held in conjunction with hers on Tuesday, November 10^th at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Harris Long officiating. Visitation will begin at 9am. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.

Joan Dicus, 86, of Versailles passed away at 8:30am, Saturday, October 31, 2020 at her home. She was born near New Marion on November 30, 1933 the daughter of Bernice and Eva Reynolds Chandler. Survivors include one son Donald Dicus of Lexington,IN; three daughters Rhonda Bradford of Rexville, Resa (Jim) Hoffman of Madison, and Carla Dicus (Shawn) of Hanover; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one brother Gene Chandler of Greensburg; two sisters Elizabeth Warth of Cincinnati and June Walker of Versailles. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Gary, granddaughter Crystal Dicus, great-grandson Hudson Scott, her brother Robert Chandler, and her sisters Catherine Grigsby, Lila Pickett, Betty Adams, and Shirley Patrick Benedict. Mrs. Dicus was a 1951 graduate of New Marion High School. She was a homemaker and for 35 years was part owner of Dicus Farm Supply and other businesses in Hanover. She also helped manage the family farm and was a former employee of the Hanover Insurance Agency and Madison Electronics in Versailles. Joan enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved to go to bingo with her sister June. Joan was a member of the New Marion Baptist Church and attended the West Fork Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4^th from 10am until 12pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Graveside services follow at 12:30pm at the West Fork Cemetery with Rev. Karen Reynolds officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the West Fork Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Ollie Marie Mullins Jolly Wagner, 80, of Versailles passed away at 9:45am, Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born in Rosefork in Wolfe County, Kentucky on June 23, 1940 the daughter of Adam and Lenus Banks Mullins. She was married to Edward Jolly on May 3, 1958 and he preceded her in death on March 16, 2003. She was married to Harry Wagner on September 2, 1988 and he survives. Other survivors include two sons Rick (Donna Carol) Jolly of Warbranch, Kentucky and Charles Jolly (Francis) of Frankfort, Kentucky; two daughters Lisa (Dennis) Sanders of Versailles and Linda (Ervin) Pettit of Moores Hill; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers Lexie (Becky) Mullins of Cross Plains and Keith Mullins of Rexville; three sisters Dorothy Pereira and Bonnie (Bill) Cox both of Versailles and Connie Grigsby of Madison. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter Vicky, son Donald, and her brothers Marlin Proffitt and Robert Lee Mullins. Ollie was a full time Mom and homemaker. She was a former employee of the Manderley Health Care Center and the Silver Bell Nursing Home. She had also spent time caring for the elderly in their homes and did house cleaning and babysitting. She enjoyed her large extended family, crocheting, participating in the Pumpkin Show arts and baking contests, and was a huge Elvis fan. Ollie was a member of the Cross Plains Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31^st at 12pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Scott Elston officiating. Burial will be in the Cross Plains Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday beginning at 10am. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of South Central Indiana, the cemetery, or the activities fund at the Manderley Health Care Center in care of the funeral home.

Esther M. Booster, 92, of Versailles passed away at 3:25am, Saturday, October 17, 2020 at her home. She was born near Rexville on March 15, 1928 the daughter of Roy and Marie Bunselmeier Hunteman. Esther’s father was killed in a train collision accident when she was very young and she was raised by her mother and step-father,Edward Hunteman. She was married to Robert Booster on August 10, 1946 and he preceded her in death on December 14, 2011. Survivors include two sons Don (Jan) Booster of New Palestine and Rev. Mark(Ruth) Booster of Versailles; three daughters Marilyn (Wayne) Percifield of Versailles, Carol (Sam) Lapin of Burlington, Kentucky, and Ann (John) Tuhela of Apopka, Florida; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers Paul, LeRoy, Calvin, and sister Ruth Allmeroth. Mrs. Booster was a 1946 graduate of New Marion High School. While being a full time Mom, Esther helped Bob with the farm while they also owned and operated Bob Booster TV in Versailles as well as the Versailles Sinclair station. She also held jobs at the Val store in Versailles, Osgood IGA, Conn Organ in Madison, and the Versailles Super Market. In later years, Bob and Esther wintered in Florida and Esther worked at Beall’s Department Store in Winter Haven. Esther was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean. John D. Begley, 48, of Versailles passed away at 4:30am, Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born in Cincinnati on March 28, 1972 the son of Jack and Patricia Begley. Survivors include four sons Andrew, Isaiah, Luke, and Dameon, and one daughter Emilee all of Versailles; his mother Patricia Campbell of Los Angeles, California; his step-mother Angel (Gary) Hall of Milan; two brothers Jack (Emily) Begley and Chris Begley both of Versailles; one sister Samantha (Erik) Demaree of Batesville. He was preceded in death by his father Jack Begley and his wife Shannon Oney Begley. Mr. Begley was a 1991 graduate of South Ripley High School and worked as a welder-fabricator at Layman Fabrication in North Vernon. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the New Marion Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Gloria “Louise” Hunter Mitchell passed away peacefully at Mary Margaret Hospital in Batesville, Indiana on Sunday, October 11, 2020. Born in 1927, in Madison, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Mabel Hunter. She was preceded in death by her older brother, William “Billy Boy” Hunter; her husband, James Mitchell; and her daughter, Mary-Ann Mitchell Sainsbury. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Mitchell; her son-in-law, John Sainsbury; her three grandchildren, Allie Sainsbury, Hunter Sainsbury, and Brittney Mitchell; and her beloved cat Toby. Raised in Versailles, she was a 1945 graduate of Versailles High School and went on to earn her degree in business education from Indiana University in 1949. While in Bloomington, she was a member of the cheerleading squad as well as Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity. She met her husband of 42 years, James Mitchell, while student teaching in Noblesville. Her professional accomplishments include operating the family’s furniture and hardware business, pursing real estate, and winning numerous sales awards. Her lifelong dedication to serving the community led her to be an active member of Tri Kappa Inc and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also served as a trustee at the Tyson Library and the Tyson United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting, which she received numerous awards, traveling, and spending time with family. A celebration of life will be held at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home on Saturday, October 17 at 2:00 PM. The family will start receiving friends at 12:00 PM. After the service, Louise Mitchell will be immediately laid to rest at the Cliff Hill Cemetery. In leu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ripley County Foundation – Louise H Mitchell / Hunter Fund or Cliff Hill Cemetery.

Beth Hewitt Kraus, 65, of Guilford passed away at 11:50am, Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at her home. She was born in Batesville on April 13, 1955 the daughter of Gerald and Carolyn Schlotman Williams. She was married to James Kraus on July 26, 2014 and he survives. Other survivors include one son Micah Hewitt of Holton; one daughter Sarah (Ryan) Tekulve of Batesville; 5 grandchildren; three brothers Mark (Jana) Williams of Edinburgh, Steve (Beth) Williams of Nashville, Tennessee, and Andy (Theresa) Williams of Greensburg; one sister Lisa (Dennis) Granger of Batesville. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Sue Rice. Mrs. Kraus attended school at Holton and was a 1973 graduate of South Ripley High School. She was a former employee of Seagrams in Lawrenceburg and retired this year from Eurostampa North America in Cincinnati where she worked in purchasing. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren, tending to her garden, baking for family and friends, and her trips to the old family farm at Flat Rock.  Beth attended the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church. Beth’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 17th at 11am at the Union Flat Rock Baptist Church west of Osgood with Beth’s nephew Stephan Rice officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will also be at the church beginning at 10am. James (Jimmy) Hyatt Jr., 81, of Cross Plains passed away at 5am, Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at his home. He was born in Friendship on May 2, 1939 the son of James and Thelma Linkmeyer Hyatt. He was married to Patsy Eaton on October 17, 1959 and his wife of 61 years survives. Other survivors include one son Rodney (Kim) Hyatt of Versailles; one daughter Rhonda Hyatt of Versailles; two grandchildren Cody (Sealy) Hyatt of Milan and Kayla Hyatt of Versailles; 2 great-granddaughters Gracelynn and Adalynn, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Darrell Gene Hyatt. Mr. Hyatt was a 1958 graduate of Cross Plains High School. He worked for 33 years for Schenley Distilleries in Lawrenceburg and had also been employed with Green Construction. Jim was best known in the community as a Special Deputy for the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, a job he had for over 30 years. He had also worked security for the NMLRA in Friendship and was a former courier for the Friendship State Bank. Jim was a 60 year member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean where he participated in the church choir and on the church council. He was also a 50 year member of the Friendship Fire Department, a member of the NMLRA, and had served on the board of directors for Rescue 69. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10^th at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Minister Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery in Olean. Visitation will be on Friday from 4pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Friendship Fire Department in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy M. Holcomb, 94, of Holton passed away at 8:45pm, Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the Four Seasons Health Center in Columbus. She was born in Cincinnati on July 14, 1926 the daughter of Robert and Osa Fay Sullivan Rishforth. She was preceded in death by her husbands William John Eichler and John Holcomb. Survivors include one daughter Sherlyn (Robert) Kimball of Holton; one son Gary (Karen) Eichler of Fairfield, Ohio; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Helen Majors, and 4 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Holcomb was a 1944 graduate of St. Bernard High School in Cincinnati. Dorothy was a former resident of Fairfield, Ohio and also of Greensburg and spent her working career in accounting at various firms in  Ohio. She enjoyed time with her family, sewing, cooking, embroidery, and crocheting. Dorothy was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church and also the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5^th at 12pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Mitch Harrell of the Zenas Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Monday and will begin at 10am. Memorials may be given to the Tanglewood Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

William K. Bowling, 92, of Holton passed away at 5:10pm, Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. He was born in Hazard, Kentucky on June 6, 1928 the son of William and Martha Mosley Bowling. He was married to Suscellia Baker and she survives. Other survivors include two sons William Ronald Bowling of Holton and Michael (Erin) Bowling of Dayton, Ohio; one daughter Carla (Tom) Poynter of Holton; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brothers Paul and Floyd Bowling, sisters Ethel, Ruth, Bessie, Katherine, and Judy. He was preceded in death by his parents,  his sisters Geneva Knicely and Marie Baker, his brother Watt Baker. Bill left home at age 14 and his early days found him firing locomotives for the B & O. He later became a truck driver and drove independently and later drove for Consolidated Freightways in Cincinnati and Indianapolis. He drove over the road for 43 years and had been recognized several times with “Million Mile” Safe Driving patches from the company. Bill was a proud Marine Corp Veteran and spoke often of being one of the last China Marines.  Of all things in Bill’s life, his family was his greatest love. He would speak often of his children, grand-children and great grand-children with pride for each one. He was a true friend to anyone who knew him.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in West Carrollton, Ohio and also was a Shriner. Masonic services will be held on Tuesday, September 15th at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles followed by funeral services with minister Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will begin at 10am. Memorials may be given to the Holton Masonic Lodge in care of the funeral home

Corey J. Withered, 36, of Osgood passed away Friday, September 11, 2020 at the University Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born at Batesville on November 15, 1983. Survivors include his father Douglas Withered of Bloomington; his mother Alena White of Versailles; one sister Charity White and one brother Daniel Withered both of Versailles; maternal grandfather Frank Braley of Versailles. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Mervin and Francis Withered, and his maternal grandmother Ruth Ann Braley. Mr. Withered was a 2002 graduate of Milan High School. Corey’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of his life will be hosted by his family at a later date. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

 Robert A. Strubbe, 74, of Versailles passed away at 7:45am, Thursday, September 10, 2020 at his home. He was born in the Tanglewood Community near Versailles on August 23, 1946 the son of Lee and Mary Ann Firth Strubbe. He was married to Mary Bartlett on August 14, 1970 and he and Mary just celebrated their 50^th wedding anniversary. Other survivors include two daughters Lydia (Greg) Gardner of Versailles and Laura Strubbe of Cincinnati; three grandchildren Jordan (Andrew) Griffith, Rylie Gardner, and Charlie Gardner all of Versailles; one brother Steve (Madeline) Strubbe of Summerville, South Carolina; one sister Judy Smith of Greendale. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Firth Shelpman, and his sister Caroline McCarty. Mr. Strubbe was a 1964 graduate of Versailles High School. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in education at Ball State University and while there he was a member of the Lamda Chi Fraternity. Bob did his student teaching at Lawrenceburg High School and was later hired there where his career spanned 30 years, retiring in 2000. One of his great treasures while at Lawrenceburg was being sponsor of the Key Club, ultimately placing as the #1 Key Club in the state. He was also an Army Veteran where he served with the 2^nd Squadron of the 3^rd Army as a field radio mechanic in Germany. For service to his country Bob received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a farmer and loved tending to his cattle. Bob was a member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church, the Versailles Masonic Lodge, and the Versailles American Legion. Bob’s wishes were to be cremated and a memorial graveside service will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 19^th at the Tanglewood Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Margaret Mary Hospital or the Versailles American Legion in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Dale G. Irvin, 85, of New Marion passed away at 7pm, Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born in Blanchester, Ohio on June 1, 1935 the son of Arthur and Ester Brothers Irvin. He was married to Eleanor Knittel on June 21, 1969 and his wife of 51 year survives. Other survivors include one daughter Beth (Rodney) Reed of Louisville; one son Glenn Irvin of Owensboro, Kentucky; one brother Cliff (Kathy) Rider of Carpentersville, Illinois; two sisters Mary Lou Walker of Cincinnati and Alice Irvin of Phoenix. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-sisters Jenny Neville and Jean Morris, and his step-brother James Ryder. Mr. Irvin was a 1953 graduate of Tech High School in Indianapolis. He served in the US Navy from May 6, 1954 until April 23, 1958 where he was stationed in Puerto Rico as an Industrial Manager with the Tenth Naval District. For service to his country Dale was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. In civilian life Dale taught industrial electronics at the Northern Campbell Technical Vocational School in Highland Heights, Kentucky. He and Ellie moved from Cincinnati to their home near New Marion in 2002. Dale was a member of the Oakland Masonic Lodge in Indianapolis and was a life member and past commander of the Versailles American Legion. Dale’s wishes were to be cremated and their will be a memorial graveside service at 11am on Saturday, August 29^th at the New Marion cemetery with Rev. Ed Roberts officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Versailles American Legion. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Cemetery or the Versailles American Legion in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Scott Edward Patrick, 59, of Clearwater Florida, formally of Versailles, Indiana. He passed upward from his Earthly home to his Heavenly home on July 30, 2020 at 10:10 AM.  Born in Cincinnati Ohio, also lived in Indiana then to Florida where he met his second wife, Suzette Elisa.  He is proceeded in death by his parents, Ed and Shrley(Chandler) Patrick. Survived by Step daughter- Chanel Marie and His 2 children Leah Marie and Jared Scott in whom has his 2 Grandchildren, offspring of Brenda Sturgeon whom he met and married after South Ripley High-school as well as meeting his best friend Curtis Sturgeon. Scott is also survived by his one brother Eddie. Eldest of sisters, Cynthia (Chris) Cohn with 2 sons Matthew and James. Cassandra Stotz with 2 children, Brandon and Lindsey. Misty with daughter, Hayley and grandson Jaceon. Scott had many of family and friends. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a Master printer for many years then had his dream job of being a Train Conductor. His dream job came to an abrupt end when little did he know that his lungs became the culprit and he became disabled. In 2018 he received a double lung transplant that eventually caused complications leading to his eyes closing forever here on Earth but wide open in Heaven. All that knew Scott will miss him dearly. His only regret was not surrendering to the Lord sooner. Scott's last words were, "I love you." He lives Forever in Glory with God ALMIGHTY! Thank you Jesus for providing a way for those that surrender to Your Will and not our own.

Betty Sue Lauber, of the Hopewell community near Holton, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 9:16pm, at the age of 83.  She was born in Holton on June 19, 1937 the daughter of Arthur and Blanche Hammon Ross.  Betty was married to Denver Lauber on June 19, 1954, and he preceded her in death on February 22, 2018.  Survivors include four children: Garry (Marcia) Lauber of Plymouth, Barry (Cynthia) Lauber of Holton, Deborah (Terry) Baker of Loveland, Colorado, and Steven (Mindy) Lauber of Dillsboro.  She has 8 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren: three sisters Margaret (James) Gallenstein of Peoria, Arizona, Bonnie Walsh of Carmel and Mary Dennie of Columbus.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother William (Bill) Ross.  Betty was a 1958 graduate of Holton High School.  Besides being a homemaker, Betty worked for 33 years as a secretary in the Holton and South Ripley School Corporation. With a tremendous heart for children, she served as a Sunday school/Bible school teacher and church camp counselor. Her volunteer services included serving as a small group leader across Southeastern Indiana presenting the Think Smart Stay Safe Program, impacting the lives of many children.  Many hours were spent brightening the lives of the residents at Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood by giving weekly manicures. Some of her many hobbies included coaching girls’ softball and boys’ baseball, baking and cake decorating, sewing, painting, tending her flowers, fishing, and was an avid reader. Betty was a longtime member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, serving in many roles. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 2nd from 5pm to 8pm at the Hopewell Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Dan Barringer officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church building fund or the Hopewell Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Johnny H. Sizemore, 74, of Holton passed away at 11:20pm, Friday, July 24, 2020 at his home. He was born at the Whitlatch Clinic in Milan on October 22, 1945 the son of John and Erma Sparks Sizemore. He was married to Rita Siebein on June 19, 1965 and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters Candy Sizemore and her husband James Rork of Versailles and Penny Jo Sizemore and her companion Shane Melton of Holton; six grandchildren; one brother Tony (Cathy) Sizemore of St Cloud, Florida; one sister Charlotte Sizemore Davis also of St. Cloud; 5 nieces, 4 nephews, and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glenn Sizemore, and his brother-in-law Randy Davis. Mr. Sizemore was a 1963 graduate of Holton High School. He was a 13 year employee of US Shoe in Osgood and then was employed with Skelgas in Osgood. He was also the service manager for Paul Walston Chevrolet in Versailles and worked with his brother and father at Sizemore’s Service Center in Holton. Johnny was a driver for Florida Coach for 35 years, driving over 4 million miles touring the continental United States and Canada. He drove for such celebrities as Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, and the Oakridge Boys, just to name a few. Later in life, Johnny still drove a bus, but of a different variety, taking nursing home residents to the doctor and to community outings. His hobbies included anything to do with his grandchildren including everything from attending their school and sports functions to hauling them Iin his gator. Johnny was a member of the New Marion Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 29th at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Cemetery or the Holton Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Teresa Mason, 64, of Rexville passed away at 3:48pm, Thursday, July 23^rd, 2020 at her residence. She was born at Batesville on September 19^th, 1955 the daughter of Everett and Dorothy Marion Cole. Survivors include her sons; Jason Platt of Manchester and Justin (Shannon) Platt of Loveland, Ohio, two step sons; David Mason of Corbin KY and Mark (Idella) Mason of Walhalla, SC, three granddaughters; Ashley, Emma and Ava, four step grandschildren; Jessica, Jennifer, Joey and Olivia, three step great grandchildren; five brothers Kenny (Judy) Cole of Osgood, Paul (Kim) Cole of Emerson, KY, Bobby Cole of Versailles, Randy Cole of New Marion and Wendell Cole of Benham, Four sisters; Brenda (Jim) Smith of New Marion, Barb & Dick) Shadday of Rexville, Beverly (Fred) Holler of New Marion, Lori Rudolph of Versailles. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; James Everett Cole and Charles Douglas Cole. Teresa was a homemaker and took long term loving care of her family in great need. Funeral Service will be 12noon, Tuesday, July 28^th, 2020 at New Marion Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Carter and Rev. Ed Roberts officiating. Josephine “Jo" Westmeyer, 95, of Versailles passed away in her home at 5:50am, Thursday, July 9, 2020. Born near New Marion January 8, 1925, the youngest daughter of Clyde and Mabel Armstrong Curry, she was married to Jesse Westmeyer Sr. December 9,1944 and he preceded her in death on April 12, 1991. Survivors include her son David Westmeyer Sr; 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law Jane Westmeyer of Versailles and Ann Westmeyer of Lexington, Kentucky; and special niece Carolyn (Bill) Brown of Greensburg. She was also preceded in death by her sons Jesse Westmeyer Jr. and Steve Westmeyer, her parents, brothers Halstead Curry and Robert Curry, and her sisters Clara Belle Vestal, Isabelle Heidorn, and Dorothy Cromer. Mrs. Westmeyer was a 1943 graduate of Versailles High School. Her working career involved helping her mother at “Ma Curry’s” Restaurant in Versailles as well as being a secretary at the Jefferson Proving Ground.   Jo was an 82-year member of the (Tyson) United Methodist Church where she participated in the UMW, a 69-year member of the Versailles OES, and a 75-year member of the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary. Her lifelong dedication to her family, church, and community was felt by all. She was devoted to community service and a passionate supporter of Uncle Jim Tyson’s legacy. Attending Girls State (1942), she never missed an opportunity to vote and was dedicated to providing that same experience for countless others. Jo was known for the beautiful roses in front of her home, sharing her “solo” with her church family by bringing endless flower arrangements and won an untold amount of Pumpkin Show blue ribbons. Jo shared her wonderful memories of Versailles with all, keeping many that had moved away still connected by sending newspaper articles and always sending her prayers. She truly loved her town and was proud to watch her family grow here as well as many others that felt just like family, reminding everyone that they were “good kids” and made of “good stuff”. She had the distinction of being the Tyson UMC Historian and served as a flower girl for Uncle Jim Tyson’s funeral in 1941.

 Marcella Myers Oropesa, 95, died in her sleep on July 6, 2020 in Bellefonte, PA.  She was born on July 23, 1924 to Harry and Abbie Myers in New Marion, Indiana, but grew up in nearby Holton. She spent most of her working life as the top “shoe dog” in the retail women’s shoe biz at the Morehouse Fashion and The Union department stores in Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her son, Ralph Oropesa and his wife Nancy Landale of Charlotte, North Carolina, her grandchildren Sara Canady (Marcus) and Alexandra Oropesa, and her great-grandchildren Theo and Donovan Canady. She is also survived by a sister, Frances Myers, and was preceded in death by her siblings Virginia Dunn, Wilbur Myers, Violet Tyler, Paul Myers, Albert Myers, Alma Julos and Thelma Wilson. A small graveside service will be held at the convenience of her family at the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Holton Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Audrey May Thieman, 93, of Cross Plains passed away at 8:55pm, Monday, July 6, 2020 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born near Dewberry in Brown Township on May 12, 1927 the daughter of Frederick and Lula Stegemiller Hurelbrink. She was married to Orville Thieman on June 10, 1944 and he preceded her in death on January 10, 1990. Survivors include three daughters Becky Cutter of Versailles, Diana Harned of Louisville, and Kathy (Peter) Harlan of Dallas, Texas; one son David Thieman of Cross Plains; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister Doris Cadena. Mrs. Thieman had worked at fabric stores in both Madison and Versailles and was a former employee of the Super-Valu in Versailles. Audrey had a tremendous zest for life which included her travels across the US including Hawaii and Alaska as well as Israel, the Caribbean, and Europe. She was very proud to be an American and even more so to be a Hoosier. She helped Orville on the farm and took great pride in her yard and in keeping the farm manicured and was also an accomplished seamstress making clothes for herself and her family. Audrey was a lifelong member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry where she taught Sunday school, Bible School, and participated in the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Benham Blue Bells Home Economics club and the local card club. Audrey was a local 4-H leader for several years and volunteered at the Ripley County Fair. She was very proud to have received her GED from South Ripley High School in 1972. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 12pm at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Benjamin Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will also be on Saturday at the church beginning at 10am. Memorials may be given to the church in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

 Mark D. Ruble, 61, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on May 22, 2020.  He was born on April 10, 1959 in Greensburg, Indiana to Raymond and Nina (Hafft) Ruble.

Mark was a 1978 graduate of South Ripley High School.  Shortly after graduation, he moved to Texas to pursue work in the construction industry.  Later, he worked as a manager for Albertsons and Walgreens.  His passion was always in construction, which he cherished, and that led him to establish Ruble’s Handyman Services in 2013, which he owned and operated until his death.

Mark was a genuine, caring man who was loved by all.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand and made an impact on everyone he encountered.

He married his loving wife, Corine De León, on December 31, 1999. They had renewed their wedding vows on January 1, 2020.

He is survived by his wife, Corine Ruble; his daughters, Kristen Ruble, Genevieve Durnin, Kelly (Ruble) Broussard, Jessica Villanueva, and Gabrielle Rico; his sons, John Hernandez and Perfecto Rico; his eight grandchildren; his mother, Nina (Hafft) Ruble; his sisters, Joyce Franklin (Denny Wood), Janet Myers (Mert), Joan Deal, Sheila Ruble, and Anita Strack (Ray); his brothers, Raymond (Peach) Ruble Jr. (Linda), and Tony Ruble (Dionne Spears).

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Raymond and his sister, Phyllis.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Madison, Indiana with Father Chris Craig officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Magdalene Cemetery, Madison, Indiana.

A social gathering celebrating Mark’s life will be held from 5pm – 8pm on Friday, July 10, at the American Legion Park, Hwy 50, Versailles.

Memorials may be given to the St. Magdalene Cemetery Trust Fund in care of the Stratton -Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

 Robert (Bobby) Wood, 65, of Versailles passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born at the Whitlatch Clinic in Milan on March 17, 1955 the son of A. Everett and Myrle Hankins Wood. He was married to Dotty Lovins on October 5, 1972 and his wife of 47 years survives. Other survivors include two daughters Bridget (Rob) Back of Versailles and Kelly (Dave) Gutzwiller of Batesville; one son Daren (Lisa May) Wood of Canaan; one brother Ralph (Faith Ann) Wood of Versailles; one sister Carol Berry of Versailles;  grandchildren Ethan & Katie Back, Sally and Joe Mortenson, Andy and Zach Gutzwiller, and Robbie and Ashley Wood; great-grandchildren Anna and Seth Back. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Wood was a 1973 graduate of South Ripley High School. Bobby was an active member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship, IN. At the age of 13, he professed his faith in Christ and spent his entire life serving. In the church he served as a Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School teacher, Secretary, Trustee, Song leader, VBS volunteer, he faithfully sang in the church choir.  Bobby’s life of serving went beyond the walls of the church; he also served throughout his community.  His most recent way to serve the community was as co-owner of the Versailles IGA with his son Daren.   He was pleased to play Christian music in the store and used every opportunity given to share the love of Christ, the IGA store was his mission field.  He took very seriously the ministry God gave him at the store.  Bobby even stated the reason he started the IGA business was to be able to support the ministry of the After School Good News Clubs, a ministry through (CEF) Child Evangelism Fellowship.   His passion was to see people come to Christ. Bobby used his business skills to successfully start several other businesses including Bob’s Dog Supply, R. L. Wood Excavating, and Dotty’s Bulk Food Store. He also spent time in sales and management at Wood Farm & Industrial Supply in Versailles. He deeply loved his wife Dotty and his family and spending time with them was very important to him. Anyone who knew him was his friend and would quickly become like family. Funeral services for Bobby will be held on Tuesday, June 23^rd at 11am at the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Akers Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be given to CEF, Bear Creek Baptist Church, Friendship Fire Department or Southeastern Baptist Youth Camp in care of the funeral home. 

Joyce Julia Klusman Swinney, 85, of Versailles passed away at 5:35am, Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born near Trosper in Knox County, Kentucky on November 13, 1934 the daughter of Ernest and Edna Lewellyn Hampton. She was married to Howard Klusman on June 27, 1953 and he preceded her in death on June 9, 2004. She was married to Edgar Lee Swinney on November 29, 2008 and he preceded her in death on September 13, 2019. Survivors include one son Mark Klusman of Parkersburg, Iowa; her step-mother Ruby Hampton of Texas; two step-children David Swinney of Osgood and Lisa (David) Ebinger of Holton; one grandson Dominick Klusman of Gilbertville, Iowa; four step-grandchildren Matthew (Bridget) Swinney of Osgood, Joshua Ebinger of Osgood, Samantha Swinney of Holton, and Rebecca (Jarred) Westerfeld of Holton; ten step-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her step-grandson Jeremy Ebinger, and her sister Betty Dickerson. Mrs. Swinney was a 1953 graduate of Rising Sun High School. She was a former employee of Thompson Industries in North Vernon and retired from Ohio Rod in Versailles. She was a member of the Ripley County Red Hatters and was a long time member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry. Joyce enjoyed playing euchre, sewing, shopping, and especially spending time with her large extended family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29th at 11am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Friday at the church. Mary Jeannette Brown Stegemiller, 96, of Cross Plains passed away at 12:45pm, Friday, May 8, 2020 at the Waters of Dillsboro Manor. She was born in Cross Plains on September 8, 1923 the daughter of Carl H. and Maude E. Johnson Brown. She was a lifelong

resident of Cross Plains and a 1941 graduate of Cross Plains High School. Both before and after graduation she was employed at the Cross Plains State Bank. She proudly served her community and aided the war effort during World War II. For her diligence she received a

commendation from US Congressman Earl Wilson for processing war bonds at the bank.

On September 24, 1949 Jeannette married Francis I. (Fritz) Stegemiller at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1962. She was a member of the Cross Plains United Methodist Church and attended regularly as the oldest member as long

as her health permitted. In earlier years she taught Sunday school classes, assisted with the Methodist Youth Fellowship and Vacation Bible School, and held offices in the Women’s Society of Christian Service. Jeannette also lovingly hosted Thanksgiving dinners for over 50

years for the extended Brown family.

Survivors include her daughter Janelle Stegemiller of Cross Plains; her sons Jon (Robin) Stegemiller also of Cross Plains, and Jeff Stegemiller of Versailles. Other survivors include her granddaughter Erin Stegemiller of Tennessee, her step-grandson Caleb Carlock of

Osgood, her step-granddaughter Hannah Carlock of Indianapolis, and her sister Martha Lea Orman of Beech Grove as well as her remaining nieces and nephews and their extended families. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers J. C. Brown and

Lloyd Brown.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12th at 11am at the Cross Plains United Methodist Church with Pastor Jerry Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am, but due to the current health pandemic and

Mr. Luke was a 1944 graduate of Dillsboro High School. Howard was a lifelong farmer and also had worked for the Indiana State Highway Department in Aurora for 12 years. He was also active in many civic and political arenas. These included serving as a director and officer for the Southeastern Indiana Rural Telephone Company for 21 years and being active in Dearborn County Republican politics where he served as a precinct committeeman in Caesar Creek Township for 50 plus years. His time as a director for the phone co-op also gave him the opportunity to serve on committees on the state and national level. Howard also spent 40 years as a director and officer for the Southeastern Indiana Feeder Auction near Osgood and served as a president, director, and adjuster for the Farmers Mutual Aid Insurance Company. He was a bus driver for 16 years for the Dillsboro and South Dearborn schools and was very active in the Dillsboro Civic Club. Howard and Elaine were honored as senior king and queen for the Dillsboro Homecoming in 2007. Howard was a lifetime member of the St. John Lutheran Church at Farmers Retreat. Howard was also selected as outstanding citizen of year for the town of Dillsboro.

Earl C. Moberly, 89, of Holton passed away at 6:10pm, Friday, May 1, 2020 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. He was born near Cottonsburg in Madison County, Kentucky on January 7, 1931 the son of Esker and Entha Adams Moberly. He was married to Myrtle Renfro Kamman on December 21, 1977 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Chris (Dawn) Kamman of Greenwood; daughter-in-law Teresa Wood of Columbus; six grandchildren Molly Hollister, Cassandra Roberts, Benjamin Kamman, Kelsey Scott-Miller, Mackenzie Pierce, amd  Isabella Kamman; 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael Kamman, his brothers Joe, Vaughn, Bert, and Lawrence Moberly, and his sisters Berthie, Dorothy, Mae, and Vlaire. Mr. Moberly was a 1949 graduate of Dupont High School and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a supervisor at the Muscatatuck State Hospital in Butlerville for 36 years and was also self-employed as a small home contractor specializing in remodeling. Earl loved his family and enjoyed fishing and camping. Due to the current health pandemic funeral services will be private and Earl’s son Chris Kamman will officiate. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion.  Gene Sparks, 57, of Osgood passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born at the Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville on September 10, 1962 the son of Fred and Clarice Johnson Sparks. Survivors include his father Fred Sparks of Versailles; one brother Steve (Candy) Feller of Guilford; three sisters Joyce Sutton of New Marion, Sharon (Dean) Bonta of Columbus, and Karen (Tom) Poole of Dillsboro; nieces and nephews Bridget Feller, Holly Leach, Dee Dee McAdams, Jason and Derek Bonta, Crystal Moon, and Tommy, Jeff, and Alex Poole, along with several great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Clarice Sparks Elston and his brother-in-law Richard Sutton. Mr. Sparks attended South Ripley and graduated from high school in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1981. He was a former employee of Delta Faucet and was currently employed with Honda in Greensburg.  Gene loved to travel and took several vacations with family members who have fond memories of the good times they shared with him. He enjoyed playing cards and outdoor family gatherings. Gene also loved technology, enjoying many happy hours on his computer.

 Raymond “Randy” Nugent, 76, of Versailles passed away at 2:10am, Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. He was born in Columbus on January 19, 1944 the son of Clyde and Itha Rand Nugent. He was married to Donna Creigmile on December 23, 1993 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Jeff Nugent of Tucson, Arizona; two daughters Susan Nugent of Hartsville and Sandy Nugent of Indianapolis; four nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Sue Calvin, and his great-nephew Jason Daniell. Mr. Nugent was a 1962 graduate of Columbus High School. He was a 33 year employee of Cummins Engine in Columbus where he repaired fuel pumps. In his spare time Randy enjoyed working on his farm with his cattle. He also enjoyed anything to do with horses and cowboys, and was a master of crossword puzzles. Randy was a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Osgood.  Shirley J. Smith, 70, of Milan passed away at 7:50am, Sunday, April 12, 2020 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born at the Whitlatch Clinic in Milan on October 31, 1949 the daughter of Floyd and Ruby Herring Cutter. She was married to Jerry Smith on November 19, 1972 and he survives. Other survivors include two sons Travis (Sarah) Smith of Batesville, and Dustin Smith of Greensburg; one daughter Amy (Jock) Ralston of Greensburg; four grandchildren Allison and Jonathon Ralston, and Jaden and Jevan Smith; one sister Judy (Gary) Stutler of Friendship. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Smith attended Cross Plains High School and was in the first graduating class from South Ripley in 1967. She was a 1970 graduate of the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati. Shirley worked as a Registered Nurse at the Odd Fellows Home in Greensburg, the Milan Health Care Center, and Terrace View in Lawrenceburg, retiring in 2015. She was also a full time homemaker, wife, mom, and grandma (Ma). Shirley was a lifetime member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean.

Gregory Wade Thayer, 69, of Osgood passed away Monday, March 23, 2020 at the Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. He was born at the Whitlatch Clinic in Milan on November 28, 1950 the son of J. Wade and Mary Kamman Thayer. He was married to Yolanda Kramer on October 22, 1977 and his wife of 42 years survives. Greg was the proud father of two sons Brian Wade Thayer of Osgood, and Evan Gregory (Layla) Thayer of Rockport; grandchildren Wade, Wyatt, Kendall, and Kramer; one sister Kaye (Steve) Callen of Milan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant sister Jane Ann Thayer. Mr. Thayer was a 1969 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School and received his Associates Degree from Vincennes University. He was a 1983 graduate of the Mid-America College of Mortuary Science. Greg began his working career helping his parents with their poultry business in Osgood. He later founded, owned, and operated Kages Inc. of Osgood and was a former Farm Bureau Insurance agent. Greg and Yolanda owned and operated the Thayer Funeral Home in Winchester for 30 years. While in Winchester Greg was a member of Winchester F &AM #56 where had served as Master and secretary. He was also a former member of the Winchester Lions Club, Winchester Rotary Club, and was former president of the Winchester Chamber of Commerce. He had also served as Randolph County Coroner for four years. He and Yolanda retired to Osgood where Greg was a member of the First Baptist Church in Osgood, Osgood F&AM #603, Mizpah Temple of the Ft. Wayne Valley of Scottish Rite, Southeastern Indiana Shrine Club, the Honor Guard of the Sons of the American Legion Post 267 in Osgood, and St. Louis Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council 1461. Greg was an active Republican and never met a stranger. He was also very proud of his collection of antique and classic old cars.

Connie D. Wallace, 79, of Milan passed away at 6:50am, Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born in Cincinnati on February 8, 1941 the daughter of Herbert and Marietta Menny Craig and was raised by her foster parents James and Mary Rudd. Connie was married to Robert Wallace and he preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons Lonnie (Donna) Sparks of Holton, and Shawn (Vicky) Sparks of Clanton, Alabama; one daughter Michelle Sparks of North Vernon; two step-sons Bob (Pam) Wallace and Greg Wallace both of Indianapolis; one step-daughter Marsha Bowers of Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Wesley Shawn Sparks, and her brothers Michael and Johnny Craig.

 Mrs. Wallace retired as the assistant manager of the Lawrenceburg Wal-Mart. Many years ago when she made her home in Holton she worked as a meat cutter at Paul and Hazel’s Abattoir in Holton. Connie was well known in the Dabney and Holton community as an expert seamstress and made many clothes for her neighbors and friends. She also made doll clothes which she would sell and was always blessed to return that blessing by giving the proceeds to the youth of the Hopewell Baptist Church. Connie was a member of the Dabney Baptist Church and attended church at Hopewell as long as she was able.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Dabney Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to youth programs at the Hopewell Baptist Church in care of the funeral home

David G. May, 63, of Versailles passed away at 8:45pm, Thursday, March 12, 2020 at University Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born in Milan on December 1, 1956 the son of Stanley and Catherine Farrell May. He was married to Melissa “Mitzi” Adkins on July 10, 1976 and she survives. Other survivors include his mother Catherine May of Versailles; one son Michael (Adrian Read) May of Coventry, England; two daughters Amber May of Holton and Meghan May of Versailles; three grandchildren Dylan, Michaela, and Mallory Brizius; three brothers Richard May of Versailles, Eddie May of Avon, and Gerald (Elena) May of Florida; one sister Linda (Barry) Borter of New Marion. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Ronald May. Mr. May was a 1975 graduate of South Ripley High School and also attended the Southeastern Career Center in Versailles where studied auto mechanics. He was a 45 year employee of Delta Faucet in Greensburg where he was currently working in security. David was a member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church and also the NMLRA where he worked the silhouette lines during the spring and fall shoots for 32 years. David mowed many yards in the Versailles area and enjoyed his grandchildren and following the UK Wildcats. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 17^th at 11am at the Tanglewood Baptist Church with Rev. Becky Pohle and Rev. Stephen Mullins officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 4pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Tuesday at the church. Edwena L. “Wendy” Mathews, 71, of Cross Plains passed away at 2:35am, Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Norton Hospital in Louisville. She was born in Dupont on January 28, 1949 the daughter of Arthur and Lorraine Rand Pyles. She was married to Lee Mathews on November 27, 1981 and he survives. Other survivors include one son Bryan (Cassandra) Mathews of Hebron, Kentucky; two daughters Cara (Bill) O’Connell of Richmond, Virginia, and Lisa (Brian) Zistler of Lawrenceburg; three grandchildren Lauren O’Connell, Kyle Holley, and Gemma Mathews; two brothers Rick (Darlene) Pyles of Phoenix, Arizona, and Daryle Pyles of Madison; three sisters Linda (David) Owens, Priscilla (Waylon) Huff, and Sonja (Gene) Drake all of North Vernon. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Janet Turner. Mrs. Mathews was a 1967 graduate of Madison High School. She was employed with the Versailles IGA, but most of her working career was spent with the Jay C stores where she worked in Milan, Columbus, Madison, and as a cashier at the Osgood store. Wendy was a member of the Shelby Christian Church and was currently serving on the Brown Township Advisory Board. Wendy enjoyed her family and spending time gardening. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 16^th at 10:30am at the Shelby Christian Church with Tim Heim officiating. Burial will be in the Cross Plains Methodist Cemetery. Kenneth W. Copeland, 78, of Versailles passed away at 3:10pm, Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at the University Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born in Cross Plains on November 30, 1941 the son of Earl and Grace Porter Copeland. He was married to Earline Pennington on August 23, 1963 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Kenneth “Sam” (Amy) Copeland of Versailles; three daughters Sandy Copeland of St. Paul, Carla (Steve) Miller of Osgood, and Darla Copeland of Versailles; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; one sister Nancy (Richard) Clem of Westfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Francis, and Ross Copeland, and his sisters Mary Lou Jolly and Caroline Morton. Mr. Copeland was a 1959 graduate of Cross Plains High School and was co-owner along with his son Sam of Copeland Excavating in Versailles. He had also been employed with Butternut Bread in Versailles, A. E. Wood Excavation, and had worked as a plasterer for Halcombs in Versailles. Kenny was active in Republican politics in Ripley County where he served as a county commissioner from 1972 to 1996, as a precinct committeeman in Brown Township for many years, and as Ripley County Republican party chairman from 1997 until 2007. He had also served for 25 years on the Sheriff’s Merit Board.  He was honored with the Sagamore of the Wabash award from both Indiana Governors Bowen and Daniels. Kenny was a member of the Benham United Methodist Church, was a 42 year member of the Versailles Masonic Lodge, and was a former member of the Friendship Fire Department. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14^th at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Jerry Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Cross Plains Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the Cross Plains Methodist Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Michael Lee Ellis, 64, of Versailles passed away at 8:15am, Monday, March 9, 2020 at his home. He was born in Terre Haute on February 16, 1956 the son of Paul and Lucille Stockwell Ellis. He was married to Paula McWethy on November 6, 1993 and she survives. Other survivors include one step-son Andrew (Kelly) Heine of Greendale; one step-daughter Jennifer (Donnie) Bovard of Rising Sun; grandchildren Abby, Lizzy, Kinzee, Kelsi, Maggie, Olivia, Nya, Meghan, and Jacob; two brothers Benny (Connie) Ellis of Peru, and Paul (Fifi) Ellis of Chesterton; three sisters Penny (Terry) Dowell of Worthington, Susie (Bill) Hooker of Linton, and Tammy (Danny) Davenport of Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by his parents. Michael was a Journeyman Lineman for several years, belonging to IBEW 1393 in Indianapolis. He also enjoyed woodworking and for many years he and Paula did professional furniture re-finishing. Along with his family Mike’s Jack Russell Petey was also a faithful companion.  A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14^th at 11am at the Shelby Christian Church near Versailles with Mike’s brother-in-law Pastor Terry Dowell officiating. Ralph William Vogel, 69, of Versailles passed away at 12:55am, Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Batesville on April 10, 1950 the son of Elmer and Anna Schwagmeier Vogel. He was married to Lois Schwanholt on May 8, 1976 and she survives. Other survivors include one son Adam (Allison) Vogel of Westfield; one daughter Kelly (Nick) Peelman of Seymour; three grandchildren Marshall Peelman, and Ryan and Magnolia Mae Vogel; one sister Eileen (Frank) LaGreca of Dillsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Vogel was a 1969 graduate of South Ripley High School. He retired in 2016 from Ohio Rod in Versailles after 45 years with the company. Ralph was a kind, gentle, and compassionate man who enjoyed his precious time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed working the farm that he grew up on and was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds. Ralph was a lifelong member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 9th at 11am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean with Pastors Wilmer Hallman and Curtis Black officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Marvin L. Dilk, 74, of Holton passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020 at his home. He was born in North Vernon on September 12, 1945 the son of Nelson and Dorothy Johnson Dilk. Survivors include one son Kevin Dilk of Holton; grandchildren Mark, Tanner, and Lauryn Dilk; one sister Patty Campbell of Pekin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kristin, and his brother Eddie Dilk. Mr. Dilk was a 1964 graduate of Versailles High School. He was a former employee of General Motors in Anderson and had been a truck driver for Beach Lumber at Holton. Marvin’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 6th at 6pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Carter Corbrey of the First Southern Baptist Church in Versailles officiating. Visitation beginning at 5pm and memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.

Thelma Jahnigen, 95, of Versailles passed away at 5:10am, Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born near Quercus Grove in Switzerland County on June 30, 1924 the daughter of Clifford and Hazel Scudder Koons. She was married to Herman Jahnigen on May 3, 1947 and he preceded her in death on May 23, 2005. Survivors include one daughter Jeanne (Jerry) Ison of Versailles; three grandchildren JJ (Kylee) Ison of Elrod, Nikki (Mike) Wissman of Elrod, and Lauren (Braedon) Lucy of Dolphin, Virginia; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother Donald (Jean) Koons of Nancy, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wesley, Denver, and Leon Koons, and her sister Doris Chalk. Along with her husband Mrs. Jahnigen operated Jahnigen Dry Cleaners in Versailles from 1947 to 1978. She also was employed with Berkel Digital Scales in Versailles for 5 years. She served as president of the Versailles Town Board from 1974 to 1977 and for 10 years was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader in Versailles.  Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Patriot and was a life member of the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 29^th at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be on Friday from 4pm to 7pm. Memorials may be given to the Legion Auxiliary in care of the funeral home.

Marvin Dean Bustle, 79, of Dabney passed away at 12:50pm, Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. He was born in Mt. Vernon in Rockcastle County, Kentucky on February 19, 1940 the son of Tom and Dorothy Renner Bustle. He was married to Betty Lou Curran on April 1, 1958 and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2019. Survivors include four sons Mike (Michelle) Bustle of Commiskey, Mark Bustle and Brian Bustle both of Dabney, and Gary (Margaret) Bustle of Fargo, North Dakota; one daughter Terri Smith of Independence, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother Jack (Gay) Bustle of Holton. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his son Ricky, and his brother Wayne. Mr. Bustle worked for over 40 years as a machinist for Art Technology/ Cincinnati Stamping. In his whole working career his family shared that Dean never missed a day of work. Dean also enjoyed fishing and was a beekeeper for many years. He was an accomplished musician, playing the guitar and banjo. Dean and Betty had made their home in Dabney for nearly 60 years. Funeral services for Dean will be held on Wednesday, February 19^th at 12pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Bro. Bob McCreary of the Holton Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery. Visitation will also be on Wednesday, beginning at 10am. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

LaVonne (Bonnie) Harlemert, 90, of Osgood passed away at 5:30pm, Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born in Milan on July 10, 1929 the daughter of Lowell Sr. and Minnie Greenham Clapp. She was married to Paul Harlemert on June 5, 1948 and he preceded her in death on May 1, 2015. Survivors include one son Ron (Donna) Harlemert of Osgood; one daughter Julia (Ron) Quicksall of Greensburg; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Lowell Clapp, Jr. and Tom Clapp, and her sister Doris McClure. Mrs. Harlemert was a 1947 graduate of Milan High School. She worked for several years as the secretary for Napoleon High School and also assisted Paul on the farm. She enjoyed gardening and also spending time with all of her grandchildren. Bonnie was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ at Finks Corner where she was active in the Ladies Aide. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 12^th at 11am at St. Peters United Church of Christ with Pastor Sandy Gruell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will also be on Wednesday at St. Peters beginning at 9am. Memorials may be given to St. Peters church or cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. 

Lucille C. Simon, 82, of Osgood passed away at 12 noon, Friday, January 31, 2020 at her home. She was born near Millhousen in Decatur County on March 15, 1937 the daughter of Dave and Elizabeth Effing Schwering. She was married to Charles Simon on October 16, 1957 and he survives. Other survivors include four sons Tony (Sandi) Simon, Mike (Janice) Simon, Joe (Renee) Simon, and Paul (Beth) Simon all of Osgood; three daughters Janet (Joe) Wagner, and Jennifer (Kevin) Ricke both of Osgood, and Sandy (Paul) Wenning of Greensburg; one brother Dennis (Janet) Schwering of Greensburg; two sisters Evelyn Johannigman of Millhousen, and Patricia (Gene) Simon of Osgood; 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Julie and husband Mark Eckstein, her grandson Scott Singleton, great-grandson Seth Holland, brothers Daniel, Tom, and Sam Schwering, and her sister Estella Merkel. Mrs. Simon was a 1955 graduate of Napoleon High School and was well known in the Jac-Cen-Del Schools where she worked as a cook at the high school for 27 years, retiring in 2010. In her spare time Lucille enjoyed being mom and grandma to her large family, and working in her garden and flowers. Lucille was a member of the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon where she participated in the Mary and Martha Circle. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, February 5^th at 11am at the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon with Father John Geis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rosary services beginning at 3:30pm. Pauline Rohrig, 81, of Versailles passed away at 9:15am, Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born at Hindman in Knott County, Kentucky on June 15, 1938 the daughter of Gordon and Melda Johnson Reynolds. She was married to Jim Rohrig on June 8, 1957 and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2009. Survivors include four daughters Vickie (Jack) McMillan and Kim (Kim) Hoffman both of  Milan, and Tammy (Mark) Hartman and Robin (Bud) Davis both of Versailles; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; one brother Ray (Wanda) Reynolds of Noblesville; three sisters Ruth Hankins, Margaret Lochard, and Catherine (Maurice) Minger all of Milan. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert, Marion, Haskell, and Gordon Reynolds, and her sister Sue Reynolds. Mrs. Rohrig was a former employee of US Shoe in Osgood and she and Jim ran the concession stand and camp store at the Versailles State Park for several years. Pauline was best known in the South Ripley Schools where she had driven a bus for the corporation for 32 years. She enjoyed spending time with her large family and especially attending her grandchildren’s ball games. She also enjoyed traveling and was a big fan of bluegrass music. Pauline was a member of the Hope Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 31^st at 11am at the Hope Baptist Church with Bro. Tom Holt officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Hope Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Richard Carroll “Dick” Davies, 73, of Milan passed away at 5pm, Sunday, January 26, 2020 at his home. He was born at the Whitlatch Clinic in Milan on October 12, 1946 the son of Dale and Helen Stamper Davies. He was married to Sandy Johnson on September 12, 1963 and his wife of 56 years survives. Other survivors include two sons Richard (Jackie) Davies of Danville, Virginia, and  Jeffery (Patricia) Davies of Osgood; one daughter Teresa Davies Sparkman of Milan; grandchildren Carol An Poythress, Dylan and Kyle Sparkman, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Hanna, and Andrew Davies, and seven great-grandchildren; one brother William (Martha) Davies of Scipio; one sister Jean (Victor) McClure of Milan. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his great-granddaughter Kimberly Dawson. Mr. Davies was a 39 year employee of Delta Faucet in Greensburg where he worked as a maintenance supervisor, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time with his dog “Pickles”, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Dick also raised and trained horses and had shown grand champions at the Indiana State Fair. He was a member of the NRA, NMLRA at Friendship, and attended the Bear Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 30^th at 11am at the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery in Elrod. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Thursday at the church. William J. Fletcher, 74, of Rexville passed away at 5:02pm, Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. He was born in Cincinnati on August 21, 1946 the son of William Fletcher and June Swab.  He was married to Donna Oden on May 7, 1979 and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2019. Survivors include one son Richard (Michelle) Fletcher of Madison; one daughter Michelle (Kim) Johnson of Cincinnati; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; one brother Ed (Mary) Swab of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Fletcher was a 1964 graduate of Western Hills High School in Cincinnati. He joined the US Air Force and served in Vietnam.  After serving in the military, he received his BS degree in computer science from the University of Cincinnati. In civilian life Bill worked as a computer programmer. He was a former employee of McDonald-Douglas, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and later in his career he established Fletcher Consulting. Bill was a Mason and was also a member of the Western Hills Amvets Post 41. Bill’s wishes were to be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at 6pm, Wednesday, January 22^nd at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Visitation will begin at 5pm and memorials may be given to the Wounded Warriors project in care of the funeral home.
